Dear Nancy...

The upcoming holiday of Valentine's Day has made us think about the meaning of love and ways we express them. Which of course brought up the topic of love letters. Did you ever get one in elementary school? One of the ones with the "check yes or no" squares? And what teenage girl didn't pour her heart out onto notebook paper the dying love she had for some boy who was way more into cars and music than her.

Then there were the really great love letter writers. One of the most famous is Ronald Reagan who wrote to his beloved wife Nancy. He wrote letters to her from the 1950's through the 1990's. He sent them to her from movie sets, the governer's office, the Oval Office and even from across the room. Here is one of his letters:

"Dear First Lady,

I know tradition has it that on this morning I place cards, Happy Anniversary Cards, on your breakfast tray. But things are somewhat mixed up. I substituted a gift and delivered it a few weeks ago.

Still this is the day, the day that marks 31 years of such happiness as comes to few men. I told you once that is was like an adolescent's dream of what marriage should be like. That hasn't changed.

You know I love the ranch but these last two days made it plain I love it when you are there. Come to think of it that's true of every place and every time. When you aren't there I'm no place, just lost in time and space.

I more than love you. I'm not whole without you. You are life itself to me. When you are gone I'm waiting for you to return so I can start living again.

Happy Anniversay and thank you for 31 wonderful years.

I love you.

Your Grateful Husband"

What a beautiful way to express love? In the days of email and text messages good old fashioned love letters have lost their place. So why not this Valentine's day bring it back? Write someone a love letter. It doesn't have to be as poetic as President Reagan, as long as you're speaking from the heart it will be perfect.

And while you're sending love letters why not send a card to your family from your child. Our etsy shop has great ones! Check them out!
